Reporting to MD

Job Purpose
The General Manager will responsible for the effective and successful management of labor, productivity, quality control, and safety measures as established and set for the Operations Department and ensure safe and efficient operations. Serve as a company representative on regulatory issues. Manage and monitor the financial performance and overall profitability of the branch. Growing and directing company culture towards increased effectiveness, teamwork, and staff development. Enhance the operational procedure, systems, and principles in the areas of information flow and management, business processes, enhanced management reporting, and look for opportunities to expand systems. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company’s policies and applicable laws.

 

 

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and review compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures
  • Contribute operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; prepare and complete action plans; implement production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolve problems; complete audits; identify trends
  • Develop strategic and tactical plan to grow the branch’s revenues and profit.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to grow sales by developing new customers, and/or broadening product line penetration to exisiting customers.
  • Forecast requirements; prepare an annual budget; schedule expenditures; analyze variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Reviewing sales reports and other business metrics to identify problem areas that need improvement.
  • Ensuring that branch operations are compliant with all Zambian business regulations such as ZRA, NAPSA etc.
  • Recommending strategic changes to improve branch performance or implement new products or services.
  • Develop operations systems by determining product handling and storage requirements; develop, implement, enforce, and evaluate policies and procedures; develop processes for receiving product, equipment utilization, inventory management, and shipping.
  • Reviewing sales reports and other business metrics to identify problem areas that need improvement.
  • Analyze and improve organizational process and workflow, employee and space requirements, and equipment layout; implement changes.
  • Maintain safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Accomplish operations and organization mission by completing related results as needed
  • Responsible for all department managers and supervisors, with review/approval responsibility for all operations employees
  • Responsible for all aspects of vehicle and heavy equipment rentals
  • Assist in building a working environment with clear goals, constant communication, feedback, and recognition.
  • Establish contracts and pricing and ensuring proper maintenance and serving as primary liaison with utilities and local government agencies, such as Fire, Police, Health, And Safety Agencies
  • Work closely with MD and management team to set and/or implement policies, procedures, and systems and to follow through with implementation.
  • Work closely with the inventory Manager and team to perform analysis of our inventory and ensure we are utilizing our inventory effectively, purchasing the right equipment, maintaining solid inventory data, and reduce sub-rental expenses
  • Communicate with legal counsel and safety department to ensure all processes remain compliant with OSHA health and safety regulations and other governmental regulations
  • Any other duties as assigned by MD

Primary Areas of Accountability:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Business Administration, Sales & Marketing, Operations Management or related field.
  • An MBA will be a plus
  • Must have a minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in operations or sales in a mining supply
  • At least a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Senior management capacity
    for a mining supply company, heavy equipment or related
  • Must have proven experience in Operations, Sales and Administration
  • Must be Familiar with Mining industry’s rules and regulations
  • Understanding of general finance and budgeting, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash-flow management.
  • Ability to build consensus and relationships among managers, partners, and employees.
  • Solid understanding of financial management.
  • Must be a member of relevant professional body (i.e. EIZ, ZIHRM)
