Job Description
The Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI) Cooperative Agreement supported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) aims at supporting the strengthening of the Institute’s capacity to provide Leadership to the Nation on
Health Security through its mandate. ZNPHI seeks to recruit suitably qualified and experienced persons to be appointed in the underlisted positions under this project:
Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) Intermediate Program Coordinator
Reports to: Program Director, Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP)
Location: Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI)
Job Purpose
To coordinate the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) Intermediate program activities, including mentorship and capacity building in order to improve epidemiolocal capacity, disease surveillance and outbreak response in Zambia.
Roles and Responsibilities
● Leads the FETP-Intermediate trainings throughout Zambia, including delivering workshops and mentoring on
deliverables.
● Mentors FETP-Intermediate residents to conduct surveillance system evaluations, surveillance data analyses,
field/outbreak investigations, and a group project on public health priority event (s)
● Identifies skills gaps in mentees to develop customized mentorship plans
● Coordinates and undertakes monitoring and evaluation of FETP-Intermediate activities
● Leads efforts to improve quality of Zambia FETP-Intermediate program
● Lead and/or participates in field investigation in assigned provinces in coordination with the Provincial and District
Health Offices
Qualifications & Experience
● Full Grade 12 School Certificate with minimum five O level credits including English and Mathematics
● Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, Bachelor of Science in Public Health, Epidemiology, Demography, Environmental Health or related
● Graduate of Advanced Field Epidemiology Training Programme or related field
● Minimum of three (3) years in public health practice, oriented organization experience of having worked in a health agency will be an added advantage.
● A good understanding of Field Epidemiology Training Programme
● Intermediate to advanced ability using ≥1 statistical software (e.g., STATA, EpiInfo, R, SPSS, etc.)
● Ability to provide substantive feedback on written reports or scientific articles such as abstracts and manuscripts.
● Experience with USG donor funded programs is an advantage
Desired experience
● Experience working in or with a Governmental Agency
● Experience working in the health sector is desirable
● Familiarity with ZNPHI’s role in health security in Zambia
● Experience working with and on Donor funded projects is an added advantage
Knowledge and Skills
● Excellent oral and written communication skills
● Interpersonal skills, patient, confidentiality, facilitation skills
● Must be computer literate and proficient in MS Office and PowerPoint
● Capacity in decision-making and problem-solving
● Ability to work effectively in multicultural environment with tact and diplomacy
● Experience working well on teams within varying areas of expertise to accomplish project objectives
