Job Description
Zambian Carnivore Programme (ZCP) is a registered non-governmental organisation that has been in operation for more than 20 years, conducting research on Zambia’s large carnivores and their ecosystems through Conservation Science, Conservation Action, Conservation Leadership and Coexistence. ZCP’s mission is “A Zambia with restored and thriving ecosystems that are collaboratively conserved by local communities, scientists and policy makers through evidence-based approaches”.
ZCP wishes to recruit a Zambian National for the position of a Field Assistant to be based in North Western Province at one of their sites in the Kambopo Ecosystem and working in West Lunga National Park and surrounding Game Management Areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct fieldwork every week according to a fieldwork schedule
- Carry out the Kabompo Camera Trap work
- Conduct the Kabompo Ground Count (foot) Wildlife Survey
- Make certain that data collected from the field is entered and always kept up to date
- Identify individual carnivores and elephants and assist with compiling ID kits
- Assist other ZCP field sites with field work when necessary
- Assist with various logistical and administrative tasks related to field work and other ZCP programmes
- Assist with camp infrastructure, vehicle and bike upkeep, camp duties, and operational tasks
- Assist with writing monthly reports for Kabompo work, including creating maps using QGIS
- Assist in developing and presenting conservation education programmes with local schools
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- BSc in Wildlife Management, Natural Resource Management or any related conservation field
- Able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency in the MS Office suite
- Researching skills: collecting, verifying, analysing, and presenting data
- Great report writing skills
- Being able to understand and speak the local languages such as Kaonde, Lunda or Luvale would be an added advantage

Desirable Qualities/Skills:
- Prior conservation experience in rural areas would be an added advantage

- Microsoft suit (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
