Job Description:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Farm Supervisor to oversee the diverse agricultural operations at Ilondola Farms in Chisamba. The Farm Supervisor will play a pivotal role in managing crop cultivation, fisheries, and livestock (Beef, Goats and Sheep) activities to ensure efficiency, productivity, and sustainability across all farm operations.

Responsibilities:

1. Crop Management:

a)    Plan, coordinate, and supervise crop cultivation activities, including planting, irrigation, fertilization, and pest control.

b)    Monitor crop growth and health, implementing strategies to optimize yields and quality while minimizing environmental impact.

c)     Ensure compliance with crop rotation schedules, soil conservation practices, and organic farming standards.

2. Fisheries Management:

a)    Oversee the operation and maintenance of fish ponds or aquaculture systems, ensuring optimal water quality, stocking densities, and feeding regimes.

b)    Monitor fish health and growth rates, implementing disease prevention measures and biosecurity protocols as needed.

c)     Coordinate fish harvesting, processing, and marketing activities to maximize profitability.

3. Livestock Management:

a)    Supervise the care and management of livestock animals, including cattle, goats, sheep and poultry, ensuring their health, nutrition, and welfare.

b)    Develop and implement breeding programs, vaccination schedules, and herd health protocols to optimize productivity and genetic quality.

c)     Coordinate feed management, grazing rotations, and pasture maintenance activities to support healthy animal growth and performance.

4. Facilities and Equipment Oversight:

a)    Maintain and manage farm infrastructure, including crop fields, fish ponds, livestock shelters, and farm equipment.

b)    Ensure proper maintenance and repair of farm machinery, tools, and irrigation systems to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.

5. Team Leadership and Training:

a)    Recruit, train, and supervise farm workers, provide support, and feedback to foster a positive work environment and ensure adherence to farm protocols.

b)    Lead by example in demonstrating best practices for crop cultivation, fisheries management, and livestock care.

Qualifications:

1.     Diploma in Agriculture, Aquaculture, Animal Science, or related field

2.     5 years proven experience in agriculture with expertise in crop cultivation, fisheries, and livestock farming, with strong knowledge of agricultural practices, including crop rotation, irrigation methods, aquaculture techniques, and animal husbandry.

3.     Should have strong leadership and decision-making skills, with the ability to effectively manage resources and prioritize tasks.

4.     Commitment to sustainable farming practices, animal welfare, and food safety standards.

5.     Should have a valid drivers license

6.     Should be able to operate farm machinery

7.     Veterinary Association of Zambia Membership will be an added advantage

8.     Must be prepared to live in a rural area
