Reports to: Farm Owner / Farm Administrator/Senior Accountant
Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Farm Inventory Manager to oversee the procurement, storage, and tracking of all farm inputs, equipment, and harvested produce. The successful candidate will ensure efficient inventory control, optimize stock levels, and support cost-effective farm operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Inventory Control & Stock Management
- Maintain accurate records of ALL farm inputs, including seeds, labour, fertilizers, pesticides, animal feed, and spare parts.
- Monitor stock levels and establish reorder points to prevent shortages or excessive inventory.
- Conduct monthly inventory audits and inspections to ensure stock accuracy and prevent losses.
- Ensure proper and safe storage conditions for perishable and non-perishable items.
2. Procurement & Supplier Coordination
- Source supplies at competitive prices while maintaining quality standards.
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and negotiate favorable terms.
- Track and verify incoming deliveries, ensuring order accuracy and quality compliance.
3. Cost Allocation & Budgeting
- Track and allocate input costs to specific crops and livestock operations.
- Assist in farm budgeting and financial planning by estimating input costs.
- Analyze inventory data to identify cost-saving opportunities and minimize waste.
4. Record-Keeping & Compliance
- Maintain detailed records of stock movements, purchases, and usage.
- Ensure compliance with agricultural regulations, safety standards, and financial reporting requirements.
- Prepare weekly inventory and cost reports for farm management.
5. Equipment & Asset Management
- Keep track of farm machinery, tools, and spare parts inventory.
- Schedule routine maintenance and servicing of equipment to avoid downtime.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Diploma/Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Supply Chain Management, Farm Management, Accounting, book-keeping or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in inventory management, procurement, or farm operations.
Technical & Soft Skills:
- Proficiency in inventory management software (e.g., FarmLogs, AgriWebb, QuickBooks, or Microsoft Excel).
- Strong understanding of agricultural inputs, equipment, and supply chain logistics.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for cost control and budgeting.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Good negotiation and communication skills for supplier relations.
- High attention to detail to ensure stock and costs accuracy.
- Ability to work with a diverse range of employees and in a rural environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in Supply Chain Management or Logistics (e.g., APICS, CIPS) is an advantage.
- Experience in agricultural cost accounting or bookkeeping is a plus.
