Job Description
Zambia Sugar Plc. is a subsidiary of Illovo Sugar Africa (Pty) Ltd Group and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products. The Company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following positions:
1. ESTATE SUPPORT DIRECTOR (PERMANENT)
This executive position is based at Nakambala and reports to the Country Managing Director.
The successful incumbent will be responsible for managing and embedding an optimized portfolio of estate support services to support employee wellbeing via provision of community, security, building and infrastructure maintenance services (including roads, water and sanitation, housing, and education – where applicable)
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure estate support services are managed within budget and achieves cost synergies.
- Ensure that risks associated with the business are identified, analyzed, evaluated, and modified through formal risk treatment methodologies to satisfy the business risk criteria while ensuring continuous communication and consultation with relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure the implementation of the IIRMS framework to integrate the process for managing risk into the business’s overall governance, strategy and planning, management, monitoring, continuous improvement, reporting processes, policies, values, and culture.
- Partner with the business to ensure capital expenditure optimization.
- Champion of the goals “to create a safe, healthy, and respectful workplace and a beautiful estate.
- Manage company properties, social services activities, maintenance contracts and other service suppliers and contracts and ensure that the estate is maintained in line with Illovo minimum standards.
- Ensure estate maintenance (civils, housing, recreational facilities, provision of water and electricity, wastewater treatment systems) meet both Country and Illovo standards.
- Create alignment on SHERQ requirements and delivery through cross-functional collaboration and communication and ensure compliance with SHERQ statutory and regulatory requirements in country.
- Act as Custodian and facilitate the management of the Business Continuity Planning process (BCP).
- Establish and manage the Emergency Response Management system in accordance with the Company and Insurer’s requirements.
- Ensure Group procedures and operational plans for handling incidents are monitored, evaluated, and implemented effectively.
- Ensure relevant legislative and regulatory standards, systems, processes and SHERQ certification requirements are met.
- Develop the Country Estate Support framework, policies, tools, governance, and minimum standards in line with Illovo best practices.
- Adhere to safety standards and promote world class safety practices.
Qualifications and Experience
- BSc in Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Construction Engineering; Quantity Surveying); MSc/MBA will be an added advantage.
- SAMTRAC / NEBOSH qualification will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 7 years Senior Management experience, with 5 years’ business optimization, project management / capital expenditure optimization, maintenance optimization.
- Demonstrable track record of skills/experience gained within a similar position(s), at a similar level.
- Business and Financial acumen.
- Proactive and a results-focus.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
- Excellent knowledge of relevant legislative, regulatory standards and certifications
