Job Summary:

Mayiko Infrastructure Limited is seeking an experienced and dynamic Environmental Officer to join our team. The Environmental Officer will play a key role in managing and improving environmental practices across our projects, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and helping us minimize environmental impacts. If you are passionate about environmental conservation and have relevant experience in mining and infrastructure projects, we would love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • EPBs & EISs : Preparation, Review and coordinating with other team members, external consultants and relevant govt. authorities including but not limited to ZEMA, City Councils, WARMA etc. to successfully approve the Environmental Project Briefs (EPB) and Environmental Project Statements (EISs) for various projects.
  • Policy Development: Develop policies, procedures, and guidelines for operation teams to ensure environmental compliance and sustainability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Research & Analysis: Conduct research and analysis on environmental impacts, pollution prevention techniques, and government regulations related to the project.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare detailed reports, maps, charts, and other documentation detailing findings from inspections and investigations.
  • Training & Education: Educate management, on-site teams, and staff on environmental issues, sustainability practices, and regulatory compliance.
  • Investigations & Audits: Investigate complaints about potential environmental violations, conduct follow-up audits, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Data Management: Maintain accurate records of environmental data, samples, and findings from investigations.
  • Recommendations for Improvement: Recommend changes in operations or processes based on findings from inspections, investigations, or audits.
  • Site Inspections: Conduct regular site inspections to identify environmental hazards and propose corrective actions where necessary.
  • Liaison: Liaise with Government Authorities, consultants, and service providers on all environmental control matters.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on environmental regulations, legislations, and codes of practice in Zambia to ensure the company remains compliant with all environmental laws.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Nature Preservation, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in environmental management, particularly in mining or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of Zambian environmental legislations, regulations, and codes of practice.

Skill set Required:

  • Effective Communication: Ability to convey complex environmental issues in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to identify and solve environmental challenges.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to conduct site inspections and audits in varying physical environments.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to work in dynamic and changing environments.
