WE ARE HIRING!

SOS Children’s Villages in Zambia is a child focused organization and an affiliate of the SOS Children Villages International. It is non-governmental, non-political, non-denominational, and non-racial. Its overall mission is to build families for children in need, help them shape their own futures and share in the development of their communities.

In order to fulfil the above mandate, the organization wishes to recruit for the position of Driver from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following position.

Position Title:  Driver

Reporting to:   Family Strengthening Coordinator

Duty Station:   Chipata

Purpose of the Job

The Driver is responsible for meeting the transport needs of the SOS Children’s Village.  In doing so, he carries an important responsibility, being entrusted with the lives of Village children and staff and the reputation of SOS.  In all of his work, he should be a good role model for the Village children.

Job Accountabilities

Fulfil the Transport Needs of the SOS Children’s Village

  • Carry out the driving requirements of the facility, as directed by the Facility Head, who is responsible for the coordination of vehicle use.
  • Report any uncoordinated instructions or grievances resulting from being unduly pressurised, to the Facility Head.
  • Conduct trips using the shortest possible routes.  Unnecessary deviations and multiple trips should be avoided.
  • Ensure that every trip is recorded on the vehicle log sheets.
  • Ensure the Safety of the Village Children

Drive responsibly and safely at all times.

  • Drop-off (and arrange to pick-up) staff only where it is safe to do so.

Maintain the Safety and Security of the Fleet of Vehicles at the Facility

  • Ensure the vehicle(s) is in good working order.  Regularly check lights, indicators, brakes, tyre pressures, oil, battery and radiator.  Report any defects to the Administrator.
  • Ensure that vehicle(s) always has sufficient fuel.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle(s).  Regularly wash vehicle(s) inside and out.
  • Follow the correct procedure in the event of an accident.

Act as a Role Model for the Village Children

  • Present a caring and understanding figure to the children
  • Carry out all duties in an exemplary manner

Understand the SOS Organisation

  • Become familiar with the background, philosophy, principles, policies and structure of the SOS organisation.
  • Understand the different roles of the SOS staff team members.

General

  • Perform any other reasonable and lawful duties, as assigned by supervisor
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with the financial and administrative policies and procedures of the Association.

Qualifications and Experience

A) Full Grade 12 School Certificate with a valid driving License class C

B) Applicants should have a minimum of three (3) years proven driving experience with own accommodation in Chipata.
