Job description:

Overall Job Purpose:

The position of Coordinator Materials Handling is to maximise resources availability through high level co-ordination for supervisors, artisans, operators and scaffolders; to ensure rigging and scaffold erecting activities go on in the professional manner, maintaining integrity of the resources & equipment in order to assist the maintenance; process and mining teams with rigging; cranes; scaffolding and the transportation of all heavy equipment to achieve production targets.
Reporting directly to the Material Handling Superintendent, the Coordinator will be responsible for providing the highest quality services and that all services provided are performed within a safe and timely manner.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

The specific tasks to be performed by the position holder will include;

Give clear direction, control and supervise the Rigger and Scaffold supervisors to ensure safe and profitable work environment for all.
Be a self-starter and able to work autonomously and as part of a team.
Demonstrate a commitment to work place safety and the safety of your subordinates.
Be accurate, methodical, and practical when giving guidance to mechanical supervisors and artisans.
Ensure subordinates follow laid down policies and procedures as out lined by management.
Enforce Compliance to work order attachments and documents such as JSA’s, Work Procedure’s, SWI’s, etc.
Co-ordinate and ensure compliance with Safety and Environmental Management systems, policies and procedures along with ensuring that all risks have been identified, managed and safe working environment is maintained.
Motivate the employees in a practical way to ensure morale boosting amongst the work force
Provide the superintendent with necessary feedback on the needs of employees and matters requiring management’s attention.
Enforce good housekeeping practices are maintained by enforcing cleaning up before, during and after every task and not leaving any hazards within the work place
Provide the superintendent with practical suggestions and improvements for the section.
Ensure that the subordinates receive all necessary trainings being offered by companies training team and beyond.
Coordinate with departmental team members, as well as process departmental members.
Have the ability to plan for shutdowns, arrange materials and manpower allocation in collaboration with planning department.
Possess high level communications skills for all stake holders.
Assist in the proactive identification of repair and maintenance works required.
Ensure Lifting machines and equipment complies with all regulations as set by law.
Ensure timely inspections of lifting equipment to ensure equipment complies to standard to ensure the safety of all personnel.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specific Competencies:

High co-ordination, control and direction skills including troubleshooting abilities.
Construction and maintenance supervision background, with preference given to direct mining experience will be an added advantage.
The ability to make informed decisions.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
A positive, self-motivated and conscientious attitude.

Qualifications and Experience required:

G12 Certificate.
Diploma in Rigging from a recognized institution or a higher qualification will be an advantage.
Lifting Machinery Inspector or equivalent will be an advantage.
Mobile crane operator certificate will be an advantage.
5 years’ minimum experience in the mining industry or equivalent as a Supervisor or higher.
Proven Knowledge and experience on heavy mining units of processing plants i.e. crushing, milling, floatation, tails and services.
Construction and maintenance supervision background, with preference given to direct mining experience.
Lifting Machinery Inspector or equivalent certification will be an advantage.
