CONSTRUCTION COORDINATOR – FULL TIME
The position will be reporting to the Construction Manager.
JOB PURPOSE

As we prepare to enter an exciting period of accelerated growth, we are looking for talented, driven, and passionate Construction Coordinator. The Construction Coordinator role will include planning, coordinating and overseeing all construction work undertaken by Healthy Learners. They will consolidate and review documents, manage expenditure against the budget, coordinate construction teams, and perform routine quality control of all construction works following the established minimum standards.
This hands-on position will supervise and communicate regularly with subcontractors and other employees to ensure they are fulfilling all job obligations on schedule hence it requires regular travel to project sites. The Coordinator will keep updated project documentation, plans, expenses and report progress to the Director of Programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Construction unit supervision and coordination
- Work closely with the Senior Director – Programs to develop, manage and review work plans.
- Support the preparation of budgets related to preparations for construction in new districts.
- Prepare and coordinate the implementation of monthly projected plans, builder payments and submissions for execution by other departments.
- Supervise a team of construction staff members within designated region.
- Cascade and monitor departmental goals, work plans and KPIs; review and evaluate the performance against work-plans, goals and objectives.
- Establish cordial working relationships internally and with external stakeholders.
- Ensure that all functions under supervision operate following standard practices, laws, and construction policies and procedures.
- Coordinate with the construction SCM on material requisition, quality control and last mile delivery
Construction oversight and management
- Coordinate multiple district construction projects from conception to completion.
- Work with management to complete periodic reviews of the standard operating procedures (SOPs); and ensure ongoing compliance with SOPs.
- Ensure all memorandums of understanding (MOU), contracts and any other necessary paperwork are in place, signed and filed in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Implement quality control testing and inspection (including regular site visits) to ensure adherence with best practices and established minimum standards.
- Supervise and coordinate the site construction activities and the stage completion certifications process.
- Oversee onsite and offsite constructions; monitor compliance with building and safety regulations.
- Complete risk assessments and prepare contingency plans to prevent foreseeable problems and resolve and mitigate risks for all construction sites.
- Ensure exceptional stewardship of organizational resources; review material requisitions for and make recommendations for approval and delivery to construction sites.
- Review consolidated payments, make recommendations for approvals and payment for all contractors.
- Review building drawings and submittals for conformance with project specifications by direct review and by leveraging the knowledge and experience of others in the project team when necessary.
- Coordinator with construction SCM with the quality control inspections of health room construction.
Reporting
- Ensure that all program construction works are consolidated and tracked with periodic progress reports.
- Create, update and maintain the project workflow tracker and all other project-specific quality control reports.
- Consolidate all construction incidents and status reports.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND COMPETENCES
- BS Degree in Construction Management, architecture, engineering, or related field.
- Minimum six (6) years of relevant experience in construction industry with a general contractor engaged in general building construction with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Membership of a Construction Engineering accreditation body in Zambia –i.e. ZIA, EIZ.
- Have a valid driver’s license.
- Proven working experience in construction supervision and coordination
Advanced knowledge of construction management processes, means, and methods. - Comprehensive understanding of all facets of the construction process.
