Zambia Centre for Communications Programmes (ZCCP) is a not-for-profit, locally based multi-media communications organization, which uses the power of the mass media (radio, TV and print) and social mobilisation to reach the Zambian population on social and behaviour change. ZCCP uses a rigorous formative research process to generate appropriate edutainment content relevant to health and development priorities in Zambia.
ZCCP is a sub partner to PATH that is implementing the USAID Program for the Advancement of Malaria Outcomes (PAMO) Plus project which is aimed to accelerate progress toward its goal of eliminating local malaria infection and disease in Zambia by achieving high levels of effective coverage with high-quality malaria control interventions, leading to major reductions in malaria prevalence, incidence, severe disease, and death in four focal high-burden provinces: Eastern, Luapula, Muchinga and Northern.
ZCCP is looking to recruit for the following position:
Job Title: Community Engagement and Mobilization Officer – (1)
Station: Northern Provinces
Reporting lines: Community Engagement and Mobilization Advisor
The Community Engagement and Mobilization Officers plays a significant role in delivering high-quality, high-impact communications for the USAID PAMO Plus project in line with our strategy and tailored to our key target audiences. Reporting to the Community Engagement and Mobilisation Advisor, the Community Engagement and Mobilization Officers will have primary responsibility to contribute towards the following objectives;
1. Improve individual and community uptake of proven malaria control behaviours, products, and services
2. Improve knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) toward proven malaria control behaviors, products, and services
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate interpersonal communication to shift information, attitudes and beliefs and promote personal actions to adopt and maintain Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs), In-door Residue Spraying (IRS), Intermittent Preventive Treatment in Pregnancy (IPTp), and early screening and treatment.
- Coordinate parenting or family-focused prevention programs focused on peer education, community champions, parenting, or family-focused prevention education programs.
- Coordinate community engagement approaches that influence social change such as strengthening problem-solving skills, reinforcing positive social norms (e.g., acceptance of IRS), and promoting early referral for treatment.
- Facilitate and support the inclusion of Social Behavior Change (SBC) interventions in community engagement plans.
- Promote social mobilization efforts and broad community awareness campaigns on ending malaria.
- Support and promote demand creation for malaria health services and products
- Coordination of SBC activities such as community dialogues, community radio programmes, including monitoring and mentorship visits.
- Participate and coordinate development of barrier analysis
- Advocate to increase, at all levels, political leadership and resource support for malaria commodities and services that complement and bolster promotion of health-seeking attitudes, norms and behaviours.
- Ensure compliance with all contract requirements (including branding and marking).
- Lead the development and implementation of a communication and visibility plan in line with internal and donor guidelines.
- Lead the high quality and timely writing and submission of donor and internal reports in collaboration with the relevant project teams.
- Support on drafting and editing articles, press releases, human interest stories and other advocacy/information materials for both web-based and traditional media, as appropriate.
- Develop, maintain and manage relations with external audiences, media as well as non-media to convey required message.
Qualifications and Core Competencies
- Full grade twelve certificate.
- University degree in Social Sciences, Communications.
- Masters in social sciences is an added advantage.
- Minimum of five years practical professional work experience in SBC, print and broadcast media, or interactive digital media.
- Strong analytical, writing, communication and editing skills.
- Strong/advanced computer skills.
- Experience of working on a Malaria or USAID funded program is an added advantage.
- Ability and willingness to travel at least 50% of the time.
