Job description:

Overall Job Purpose

  • Our company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Civil Engineering professional to join our team.
  • The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of experience in designing, constructing, and managing tailings and water dams, with a strong background in mining and environmental engineering.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that our tailings and water dams are designed, constructed, and operated in compliance with all relevant safety and environmental regulations.
  • In addition, the candidate will be responsible for leading the planning of TSF construction and any TSF governance-related activities and projects.
  • The Civil Engineer must coordinate with a variety of different areas to ensure that all aspects of the plan and projects are completed in a timely and efficient manner and work closely with engineers, surveyors, CAD Designer and specialists to keep projects on track and manage conflicting priorities.

 

Specific Job Responsibility

The specific tasks to be performed by the position holder will include:

  • Develop and implement short, medium and long term deposition plans for construction activities.
  • Conduct regular inspections of tailings dam to identify any potential safety or environmental risks, and develop mitigation strategies
  • Review project documents, including design sets, to determine project milestones and sequencing and validate that the construction schedules comply with the project documents.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies, stakeholders, and other industry professionals to stay up-to-date on regulatory changes and industry best practices
  • Lead a team of engineers and technicians to design, construct, and manage tailings dams
  • Ensure that all tailings dam activities comply with the company’s safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures
  • Provide technical support to other departments on tailings and water dam related matters

  • Strong knowledge of tailings and water dam design, construction, and management practices
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Proficient in using relevant software and computer programs
  • The ability to explain design ideas and plans clearly
  • The ability to analyse large amounts of data and assess solutions
  • The ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
  • The ability to use techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
  • Ability to produce clear technical reports

Experience required to perform in this job

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in designing, constructing, and managing tailings dams in the mining industry

 

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering, Mining engineering, Environmental engineering, or a related field
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent will be an advantage
  • Qualification in project management will be an advantage
  • Registered member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) or equivalent
  • Ability to register as a member of the Engineering Registration Board of Zambia
