Job Description
We are seeking a Chief Technical Officer (CTO) based in Zambia, working for a leading power and renewables company.
You will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of the power generation facility. The is crucial in ensuring the efficient and sustainable operation of the plants.
Job Title: Chief Technical Officer (CTO)
Job Summary:
The CTO will play a critical role in driving the organization’s technical excellence, ensuring environmental stewardship, and contributing to the global transition toward clean and sustainable energy sources. The Chief Technical Officer is responsible for the strategic planning, management, and oversight of all technical operations within the hydro and solar power plant.
The Job includes optimizing power generation from its sources, maintaining equipment, ensuring safety standards, and driving innovation in renewable energy technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Strategy and Leadership:
- Develop and execute a technical strategy to maximize power generation, efficiency, and sustainability.
- Lead and inspire the technical team, setting performance goals and ensuring the plant’s mission and vision are met.
- Optimize manpower structures at all generating facilities.
- Develop key performance indicators based on the company strategic goals.
Plant Operation and Maintenance:
- Oversee the daily operations of the power plant, ensuring the reliable and safe generation of electricity from hydro and solar sources.
- Implement proactive maintenance and troubleshooting strategies to minimize downtime.
- Maintain key contacts with stakeholders such as OEMs, Consultants, Regulators and others
- Be resourceful in ensuring that critical spares for the plant are available.
Renewable Energy Technologies:
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in hydro and solar energy technologies and evaluate their potential integration into the plant.
- Drive innovation and sustainability efforts to improve the environmental impact of power generation.
- Drive innovation to ensure efficient operation of a hybrid plant plant
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure that the power plant complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and environmental standards.
- Collaborate with legal and regulatory teams to obtain necessary permits and approvals.
Budget and Resource Management:
- Develop and manage the technical department’s budget, allocating resources effectively.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize resource allocation.
Safety and Environmental Compliance:
- Establish and maintain safety protocols and environmental compliance standards to protect employees, the community, and natural resources.
- Respond to emergencies and incidents with a focus on safety and environmental protection.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
- Implement monitoring systems to track power generation, equipment performance, and environmental impact.
- Prepare and present technical reports to the executive team and stakeholders.
- Prepare concept notes for plant improvements or projects that could enhance the performance of the power plants and expansions of production
Collaboration and Communication:
- Foster effective communication and collaboration with other departments, including engineering, finance, and operations.
- Engage with external partners, stakeholders, and government agencies to strengthen industry relationships.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in preferable in Mechanical engineering, renewable energy, or a related field. Other engineering disciplines with vast experience in rotating machines and renewables will be considered.
- Extensive experience in rotating power plant is a must
- Extensive experience in the renewable energy sector, with a proven track record of managing technical operations in hydro and solar power plants.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of renewable energy technologies, regulations, and safety standards.
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
- 10 years experience
- Full time to be based in Zambia, offered on a 3 year renewable contract.
