JOB DESCRIPTION

Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly motivated and committed employee for the position of  Assistant Process Manager to join the versatile Process team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Process Manager, you will assist the Process Manager in maintaining and improving all plant KPIs on a day-to-day basis as well as maintain the operational efficiencies on an hourly and real time basis.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Engage with process plant Operations, Metallurgical, and TSF Superintendents in keeping alert on any deviations in the KPIs and correct any threats to the achievements of targets in real time
  • Develop and manage systems to coordinate quantity, quality and timing of feed to the crushing circuit.
  • Develop and manage systems for the continual delivery of plant operating parameters to the Processing Operations Superintendents to enable achievement of planned metallurgical recovery.
  • Develop and manage systems to monitor all stages of the metallurgical process to allow adjustments to process controls to enhance plant performance.
  • Carry out continuous improvement of metallurgical performance and efficiency by conducting metallurgical investigations and test work for the crushing, grinding, flotation, filtration and tailings disposal sections, provide routine and adhoc technical reports as necessary.
  • Develop systems to manage process tailings to comply with environmental management obligations.
  • Manage metallurgical accounting systems to account for product from crushing to shipment.
  • Carry out metallurgy, training and projects to agreed cost, quality, quantity and schedule.
  • Maintain a formal management reporting system that incorporates performance statistics, any applicable statutory requirements and business improvement initiatives.
  • Assist the Manager – Processing with implementation of change management initiatives and other business improvement projects.
  • Prepare and manage the budget for the function

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Minimum Degree qualifications in Metallurgy or a related discipline
  • Minimum 10 years significant experience in senior roles in minerals processing operations, including several years in senior metallurgist roles in the copper industry.
  • Experience in metallurgical accounting.
  • Experience in developing management systems.
  • Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team safely and improve team safety awareness
  • High level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in Zambia.
  • Experience in managing costs and budgeting
  • Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas
