Assistant Mine Electrical Engineer (1 position)

Reports To: Mine Electrical Engineer

Purpose of the Role:

Statutory position under Mining Regulation 209 (1b) to provide administrative assistance to Mine Electrical Engineer in planning, coordinating and execution of functions of the department and ensure reliable power supply to the mine according to prescribed standards and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Electrical Maintenance and Repairs:

• Assist in planning and managing departmental electrical work to meet production targets and services;
• Assist in designing and implementation of mine electrical equipment installations and inspect operations to ensure compliance with design, statutory obligations, equipment specifications and safety standards
• Develop preventive maintenance work Schedules for plant electrical equipment
• Handle troubleshooting of malfunctioning of electrical equipment with minimum effect on production

2.  Team Supervision:

• Assist in building capacity of the team through providing technical guidance and training
• Isolate and issue work permits to team during maintenance works.
• Carry out appointments according to mining regulations and ensure Log books are in place and inspected for correct entries.

3. Reporting:

• Prepare technical reports on Statutory Electrical tests
• Provide input in submission of weekly progress report of all departmental activities.
• Compile detailed Report of Electrical safety and protection settings.

4. Stock Control

• Ensure control and maintenance of stock levels for electrical equipment spares.
• Creation of new stock items according to the company procedure

Qualifications and skills:

• Grade 12 Certificate;
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized University.
• Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia. (MEIZ)
• Registered member of the Engineering Registration Board (ERB)
• Valid Light vehicle Driver’s license

Experience

• Minimum 3 years’ work experience in a mining industry handling similar capacity.
• Knowledge of LV and HT systems protection and maintenance (MCC’s., Overhead lines, Transformers and Motors)
• Good knowledge of Variable speed Drives and DOL starter
• Experienced user of MS Office (Word, Excel and Power Point) and a design and draft software application such as AutoCAD.
• Experience on SAP system will be an added advantage

Knowledge

• Power distribution and protection systems
• Electrical problem troubleshooting;
• Electrical circuit design and testing;
• Spares, Electrical equipment database creation;
• Electrical Safety/standard operating procedures
• Knowledge of Electrical HT switching procedures.
