Job Description
Zambia Sugar Plc. is a subsidiary of Illovo Sugar Africa (Pty) Ltd Group and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.
The Company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following positions in the Estate Support Services Department:
1. ARTISAN CARPENTER x1 – PERMANENT
The position reports to the Building Supervisor. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing construction, carpentry and joinery works as well as ensuring adherence to work specifications and safe working environment.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- To ensure that there is no wastage of materials
- To avoid reworks
- To make sure that all the carpentry tools are properly kept
- To help generate acceptable quality of civil maintenance works and infrastructure development.
- To attend to Civil Maintenance carpentry works as assigned by the building supervisor of factory, residential and social infrastructures such as (schools, hospitals/clinics, social clubs, office buildings, etc.)
- Ensuring all stakeholders in the business that require the services of carpentry and joinery works are effectively and satisfactorily attended to.
- Ensuring that work orders are closed / done in accordance with requirements (in terms of quality, usage and specifications) and that, materials are available for the job.
- Giving technical and professional advice on work requirements to ensure conformity to accepted standards for work requests.
- Providing feedback to the Building Supervisor on material usage and works completed.
- Interpreting drawings for buildings, sketches, and other specifications.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Craft certificate in carpentry and joinery.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in carpentry and joinery
- Experience in Building maintenance (carpentry and joinery) will be advantageous
- Knowledge of Estate infrastructure is essential
- Valid membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)
- Interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
2. ARTISAN PLUMBER x1 – PERMANENT
The position reports to the Building Supervisor. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out preventive, periodic and routine plumbing maintenance works to the acceptable Engineering standards at minimum costs. The operational performance area shall be Nakambala and wherever the services may be required by the Company.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Interpret plumbing drawings and layouts
- Assembling, installing, maintaining pressure testing and repairing plumbing pipes, systems, and fixtures
- Determine sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as required or as per work order.
- Fitting and repairing various plumbing appliances
- Cutting, welding, and assembling pipes, tubes, fittings, and fixtures
- Inspect and test all plumbing systems in line with safety, functionality, and standard works procedures
- Adhere to Illovo’s procedures, policies, and guideline and SHERQ.
- Attend and participates in daily safety talks
- Operate tools both manual and powered, according to established safety procedures
- Complete all assigned work orders accordingly
- Provide feedback to the supervisor and clients regarding plumbing systems, materials used and any other information that may be needed.
- Respond to emergencies
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Artisan Certificate in Plumbing and Sheet Metal design
- Minimum 2 years’ work experience in similar role
- Valid membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)
- Interpersonal, leadership and communication skills
