Job Description


Our client, a Global Agri-Business company is looking to hire an Agroforestry Technical Manager to join their team. The Agroforestry Technical Manager will manage agroforestry and curing barn upgrade programs ensuring full implementation.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the implementation of grower woodlots, live barns and tobacco curing barn programs to ensure sustainability targets are achieved as per strategic plans.
  • Define all input quantities and materials for the projects including personnel requirements and ensure timely ordering and delivery of inputs to growers.
  • Ensure that each curing barn is constructed according to the technical specifications and covers all the key criteria of good curing as stipulated in MAS – including barn structure, chimney and furnace construction to ensure maximum life of curing barns.
  • Oversee the technical specifications of the organization’s Minimum Forestry Standards (MFS) and provide technical expertise for grower woodlots and commercial woodlots.
  • Facilitate Agronomy Technician training in Minimum Forestry Standards (MFS) and oversee grower training covering.
    o Curing barn development and furnace upgrades,
    o Ideal tree seedling production and demonstration woodlots to maximize tree survival in the field
    o Live barn training covering all key areas including care/maintenance, pruning and roofing operational livebarns
  • Ensure used polypots and other non-biodegradable material related to agroforestry are disposed in a sustainable manner.
  • Ensure timely capturing of grower woodlots and curing barns in the system and provide agroforestry and curing barn program reports as required.
  • Conduct daily operations with a positive and proactive EHS culture by:
  • Promoting a Health and Safety culture on site by leading the example.
  • Showing visible commitment/involvement to EHS ownership so that it is felt by employees.
  • Communicating with Line Manager of areas where unsafe conditions or an unsafe act is observed and there must take immediate action to stop the unsafe condition or unsafe act.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the direct supervisor

Desired Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must have Bachelors Degree or higher in Agroforestry or an equivalent from a recognized institute.
  • Must have a minimum of 7 years’ experience with at least 3 years of Management level experience.
  • Should possess a high level of Agroforestry/Silviculture knowledge with experience of managing a large volume of seedlings.
  • Fluent English oral and written.
  • Should be Computer Literate (Microsoft Office, internet) and agroforestry systems like Agromobility and Flowy.
  • Should possess Leadership skills, Communication skills, Planning skills, and Decision making.
