Job Description
BCP is a leading African REDD+ Developer and conservation organization which seeks to sustainably finance wildlife and habitat conservation through the forest carbon markets. BCP’s mission is “making conservation of wildlife habitat valuable to people”. We work with Community and Government partners to help improve the conservation management of over 1 million hectares of globally significant wildlife habitats in Zambia, benefiting over 225,000 people.
BCP is seeking to recruit dynamic individuals as Agricultural Field Officers to be based in Mulobezi x1, Kaoma x1, Lufwanyama x1, Kasempa x1 and Sesheke x1. This role is open to all qualified applicants; however, preference will be given to candidates who are residents of the Kafue-Zambezi Community Forest Project partner Chiefdoms and are proficient in the dialects of the area. Residing in the advertised sites will be an added advantage. The successful candidates will be responsible for increasing food production and nutrition security in the Kafue-Zambezi Community Forest Project partner Chiefdoms and contributing to getting KZ Project to Verification ready by 2026. Additionally, the role will be responsible for improving incomes of households around KZ Project Areas in Mulobezi, Sesheke, Kaoma, Lufwanyama, and Kasempa sectors by sustainably growing enough crops for subsistence and excess surplus sales. The Agriculture Field Officer has a key role in engagement by communicating to communities that these livelihood investments are a result of protecting community forests through REDD+ Project. The link between BCP’s Agricultural program and REDD+ has to be 100% clear to the beneficiaries. The Agriculture Field Officer will need to contribute to catalyzing.
STUFF WE’LL TRUST YOU WITH.
- Strengthen and nurture key partnerships with GRZ, NGOs, and other partners to scale up the Conservation Farming (CF) Climate Smart minimal tillage (MT) land preparation practices, input and planting regimens for the CF MT practices, irrigation (if appropriate) and harvesting within Mulobezi, Sesheke, Kaoma, Lufwanyama, and Kasempa sectors.
- Provide timely and professional technical training and support to Lead Farmers, partners, and communities to maximize yields and increase household food security among communities living adjacent to the Community Forests.
- Improvements in food and nutrition security and household incomes for 2,275 households in each of the sectors.
- Link farmers in Mulobezi, Sesheke, Kaoma, Lufwanyama, and Kasempa to cop market, inputs and third party support service markets such as tillage and haulage.
- Setting up of Conservation Farming (CF) Minimal Tillage (MT) demonstration plots and field days.
- Introduce the diversification of drought resistant crops (e.g. Millet, Sorghum and Cassava) where appropriate.
- Communicate internally & externally following the BOB ‘breakthroughs & blockages’ principle.
- Actively contribute to communications efforts i.e. slack, blogs, images and face book updates, including identifying and contributing to impact stories.
- Participate in key surveys such as the harvest assessment.
ALLIANCE BUILDERS WANTED.
- A minimum of a Diploma and/or a higher qualification in Agriculture or a related field from a reputable agricultural college.
- A motor bike rider’s license, with experience, will be an added advantage.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience training and supporting Lead Farmer-led farmer-to-farmer extension networks on the Conservation Farming Minimal Tillage practices.
- 1-3 years’ experience and expertise linking farmers to crop, input and agricultural support service markets.
- Proficient in local vernacular for the targeted project sectors.

- Computer skills and full command of Microsoft applications required.
