About the role:

We are looking for a detail-oriented  Accountant to oversee the company’s accounting functions with  a strong understanding  and expertise in inventory management. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in inventory accounting and capable of managing the entire accounting process, including month-end closings and the preparation of regular financial reports. This role will be instrumental in ensuring the accuracy of financial data and the smooth operation of the company’s accounting function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and reconcile inventory accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Oversee the proper recording of inventory transactions to maintain up-to-date and reliable financial data.
  • Monitor and analyze inventory movements to ensure appropriate valuations and minimize discrepancies.
  • Prepare and produce accurate monthly financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure that all financial data is complete and accurate, meeting reporting deadlines.
  • Assist in the preparation of year-end reports and audit documentation as required.
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
  • Ensure accurate processing of all financial transactions, maintaining organized records and ledgers.
  • Support other accounting staff in ensuring compliance with financial procedures and best practices
  • Lead and ensure the timely and accurate completion of month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Review and reconcile financial statements to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure the closure process is smooth and efficient.
  • Ensure accurate inventory costing by monitoring costs associated with procurement and production.
  • Assist with pricing analysis to ensure products are priced for profitability while maintaining competitiveness.
  • Review inventory turnover and assess costing efficiencies to enhance operational margins.
  • Ensure that all accounting processes and records adhere to regulatory standards and internal control policies.
  • Conduct regular checks and audits to ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies.
  • Identify areas for process improvements and implement changes to enhance operational effectiveness and compliance.
  • Generate periodic and ad-hoc financial reports as required by senior management.
  • Provide in-depth analysis of financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
  • Offer recommendations based on financial insights to improve decision-making and business performance.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., procurement, sales, production) to ensure that inventory and accounting records are aligned.
  • Provide relevant financial data and support to management to assist in strategic decision-making.
  • Foster strong communication with other departments to ensure financial processes are seamless and accurate.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Acc/CIMA/ZICA/ACCA
  • 2-4 years experience in Accounting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify discrepancies and propose solutions.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, complex formulas) for data analysis and reporting.
  • Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Sage) and ERP systems related to inventory and financial management.
  • Knowledge of costing methods (FIFO, LIFO, weighted average) and the ability to apply them in inventory valuation.
  • In-depth understanding of regulatory compliance and internal controls related to inventory and financial reporting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, independent, and capable of managing time effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and CRM tools.

The incumbent will receive a competitive salary commensurate with experience.
