1. Job Description : Accountant
Company: Lyft Rental and Car Hire
Location: Lusaka, Zambia(with occasional travel to Kitwe and Ndola)
Reports To: General Manager
2. Job Summary
Lyft Rental and Car Hire is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to oversee and manage the company’s financial operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing budgets, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, and providing financial insights to support business decisions. This role requires close coordination with branch operations in Lusaka, Kitwe, and Ndola.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Management and Reporting
– Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including income, expenses, and asset tracking.
– Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (e.g., income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements).
– Develop and monitor budgets for each branch (Lusaka, Kitwe, and Ndola) and the overall company.
– Perform variance analysis and provide recommendations to address discrepancies.
2. Revenue and Accounts Receivable
– Track revenue from car rentals and hire services across all branches.
– Ensure timely and accurate invoicing for clients and follow up on overdue payments.
– Reconcile daily cash and digital payments from branches to prevent cash leakage.
3. Expense Management and Accounts Payable
– Monitor and approve expenses, ensuring they are within budget and supported by valid documentation.
– Process payments to suppliers and service providers (e.g., vehicle maintenance, insurance premiums).
– Maintain detailed records of fuel usage, repairs, and other fleet-related costs.
4. Payroll and Staff Payments
– Prepare and process monthly payroll for all employees, including branch staff in Lusaka, Kitwe, and Ndola.
– Ensure statutory deductions (e.g., PAYE, NAPSA) are accurately calculated and submitted on time.
5. Tax Compliance and Regulatory Reporting**
– Ensure compliance with Zambian tax laws, and other statutory obligations.
– Prepare and file tax returns accurately and on time.
– Liaise with regulatory bodies, auditors, and tax consultants as necessary.
6. Fleet Cost Analysis
– Track and analyze the financial performance of the fleet, including profitability per vehicle.
– Monitor fuel costs, insurance expenses, and maintenance budgets for all vehicles.
– Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend efficiency improvements.
7. Internal Controls and Auditing
– Implement and enforce financial controls to minimize risks of cash leakage or fraud.
– Conduct regular reconciliations of bank statements, petty cash, and branch records.
– Support internal and external audits, ensuring all records and documentation are readily available.
8. Branch Coordination
– Work closely with branch managers in Kitwe and Ndola to ensure consistent financial practices.
– Provide financial training and guidance to branch staff, especially on cash handling and reporting.
– Conduct periodic visits to branches for financial reviews and audits.
Key Requirements
Education and Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
– Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CIMA, or ZICA
Experience
– Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably in the rental or fleet management industry.
– Experience working with multi-branch operations is an added advantage.
Skills
– Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage,Zoho or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
– Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
– Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with branch managers and staff.
