Lubambe Copper Mine Limited (LCML) operates an underground copper mine located in Chililabombwe District in the Copperbelt Province of the Republic of Zambia. The company also has a mineral processing plant with a capacity to process up to 2.5 Mt per annum of copper ore and produces a high – grade copper concentrate.

LCML seeks to employ an experienced and qualified individual in the following position:
PLANT METALLURGIST (x1)
This position reports to the Senior Metallurgist.
Core Purpose of the Position:
Process and Quality Control forms a fundamental function of a Plant Metallurgist. To ensure stability of the concentrate production process from Ore beneficiation, flotation and dewatering. The quality of the product depends on good process monitoring and control of the parameters critical to process (CTP) and those critical to Quality (CTQ). Plant availability and valuable metal recovery aimed at maximisation of profit are cardinal throughout the concentration process to improve the Mining business.
Key Performance Areas/Indicators (KPA/Is):
- Responsible for one’s safety, that of the people around as well as the plant section.
- Review milling throughputs, mill weights, densities, grinds and act accordingly on any process deviations.
- Review SAG and Ball Mill performances, discuss with the Senior Metallurgist and guide operations team on how to charge the consumption. Review ball levels and raise if required every morning.
- Participate in ensuring correct operation of the milling plant is adhered to.
- Review the flotation process and process control sheet often to monitor the concentrate production. React accordingly to deviations in conjunction with the foremen with regard to Recovery and Grades.
- Champion all activities of the flotation section.
- Ensure correct reagents and optimal dosages are being used and followed.
- Ensure correct thickener operations are adhered to.
- Ensure all reagent mixing and pumping processes are being done correctly and are in good order with the help of the foremen.
- Review previous day dispatched tonnage of concentrate and quality (grade and moisture) and accordingly to maintain quality.
- Ensure timely compilation and release of all concentrator, daily, weekly and monthly metallurgical reports.
- Perform monthly mass balance, metal reconciliation and reporting.
- Conducts, plans and assists with metallurgical study, development, testing, plant trials and analysis of designs, processes or procedures at assigned section.
- To participate in the supervision of the accuracy of the process plant metallurgical accounting process in the concentrator e.g. weight meter calibrations, sample cutters inspections, concentrate weighing process etc.
- To conduct process monitoring, analysis of design and improvements projects.
- To conduct product quality and recoveries control and guarantee customer quality satisfaction on the delivered concentrate product.
- To participate in training and mentoring the operators in the best process control and monitoring.
- To participate in the inspection and receiving of the plant consumables, spare parts to guarantee QA/QC of every material coming into the process plant.
- Reviews and recommends new or enhanced metallurgical testing equipment or protocols.
- Provides guidance and counsel to the site Operating team on applicable operation, practices.
Academic Qualifications and Experience:
- Full Grade 12 Certificate.
- Degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering.
- Must be a member of Engineering Institution of Zambia as per Act No. 27 of 1992.
- Minimum of 5 years in Metallurgical processing operations.
- Ability to multitask and set priorities effectively.
