Job description:

Overall Job Purpose
Responsible for the safe and efficient provision of accurate and timely surveying field work and office duties as assigned by superiors on the Trident Mining and Exploration leases while assisting superiors with the training of section personnel in all aspects relating to Occupational Health, Safety and Environment, operation and maintaining of all Mine Surveying standards on site.
Specific Job Responsibility 

  •   Managing the delivery of accurate 3D spatial data and services within my lease.
  • Assisting with and recommending continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
  • Scheduling and prioritizing survey tasks by liaising between technical departments and mining contractors.
  • End of month volumetric surveys (mining, blast volumes, long-term stockpiles, ROM, clear and topsoil stripping).
  • Processing daily dig plan face positions – includes pickups, updates and uploads into machine guidance applications.
  • Establishing, extending and verifying Survey Control network to a high standard and in keeping with the regulatory accuracy and requirements.
  • Setting out for mining contractors (pre-strip, haul-roads, dumps and drainage works), geologists (drill hole collars, either for production or exploration).
  •  Use spatial data to create and prepare plans and drawings for various regulatory bodies.
  • Implement any necessary slope monitoring control for the open cut operation, in accordance with the Mining and Safety Act.
  • Project planning for aerial surveys – to include area to be mapped, target implementation, horizontal and vertical datum controls.
  •  Maintenance of surveying equipment to required standards.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Specific Competencies 

  • Possess strong knowledge in large multi open pit operations utilising GPS equipment, Laser scanners, Drones, Total stations and associated Surveying software like Surpac, Maptek PointStudio, Pix4Dmapper, or GIS software.
  • Ability to interpret and implement mine plans and effectively achieves targets and goals.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills with the other Mining sections (Operations, Technical, Mine Geology and Mining Maintenance) personnel.
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills in English language.

Experience required to perform in this job

  •  A minimum of 2 years’ post qualification industrial experience in the mining and Surveying industry.
  • Experience in drone surveying is an added advantage.

Qualifications

  • A Degree or Diploma in Geomatics/Surveying qualification from a recognized institution.
  • SADC Class B manual driver’s license.
