Position Title: Program Manager – Women Leaders For Climate Action

Location: Lusaka, Zambia

Reports to: Private Sector Engagement Manager

Supervises: Communications Officer – Women Leaders For Climate Action

Context

WWF-Zambia is seeking to employ a Program Manager for the Women Leaders for Climate Action program. (WLCA). WLCA comprises a group of Influential Women from different social & economic fields who play a critical role in supporting and influencing the delivery of sustainable and climate resilient futures for communities, businesses and ecosystems. Through this program, the women intend to close the ever-growing gap of unsupported, under-funded climate action initiatives delivered at community level while creating a pipeline of investable climate projects for the Women Leaders to tap into at individual or organizational level.

This is a 2-year position whose main responsibility is to support the WWF-Zambia host the secretariat for the WLCA program.

Major Function

The Programme Manager plays the lead role in the planning, coordination, and management of the WLCA secretariat.  The role oversees setting up the programme, gaining the support of government and traditional officials at senior level by establishing partnerships for programme implementation and supporting research activities on the ground.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Development – set-up and lead, with key partners and stakeholders, the development, implementation and monitoring of a shared agenda for the WLCA
  • Lobby and Advocacy Initiatives – implement key components of the advocacy and lobby strategy for the programme
  • Programme Management – oversee the integrated planning and delivery of approved programme work-plan and budgets
  • People Management – oversee the performance of the programme team, ensuring optimal coordination, team works and communication for effective delivery of all interventions on climate adaptation at field level.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning – ensure that key PMEL deliverables are met on the programme including facilitation of a baseline study, mid-term evaluation and end term evaluation. Additionally, the programme manager will ensure a clear M and E plan is implemented to support quality programme delivery.
  • Financial Management – supervise thorough financial planning, management and monitoring of budget performance of the programme, working with support from the programme grant accountant. Ensure timely submission of the programme financial reports to the finance manager.
  • Communication – support development of key communications channels for the programme and supervise the production of IEC materials.

Working Relationships

Internal:

  • WWF Zambia: Interact on a regular basis with the WWF Private Sector Engagement Manager, Technical Teams and Finance Team.

External:

  • Maintain liaison with all WLCA members
  • Interact with strategic partners

Role Profile: 

Required Qualifications, 

  • A B.Sc. degree or higher in the field of Business Management, Social Sciences, Development Studies and/or natural resource management
  • A MSc degree or higher in the field of Business Management, Social Sciences, Development Studies and/or natural resource management will be an added advantage

Required Experience and Knowledge:

  • At least 3 years of experience working in a senior management position
  • At least 5 years of experience in project management with the ability to work independently and/or with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with stakeholders’ engagement in Zambia would be a strong asset.
  • Proven experience with the financial management of donor funded projects

Broad knowledge of climate adaptation approaches and solutions
Board knowledge of sustainable finance.

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong skills in project planning and implementation, financing management and reporting.
  • Good program management skills and proven initiative, working under pressure and meeting deadlines.
