Save the Children wishes to invite qualified individuals to apply for the following position: Position: Child Protection & Participation Coordinator Duty Station: Petauke Role Purpose: The Coordinator will support the implementation of the Sponsorship child protection work in Eastern Province and contribute to the delivery of key child protection milestones for Save the Children. The role will have oversight of other child protection activities going on the province with the aim of strengthening collaboration, learning and good practice. The role will integrate child protection, with all the other thematic areas – child poverty, child rights governance, health and education to ensure children and family’s benefit from an integrated service delivery model. The post holder will guide and spearhead strengthening interventions to prevent and respond to violence and abuse among vulnerable girls and boys in the program area.

Reports to: Program Manager – Petauke; with dotted line to TS Child Protection.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Overall responsible for the implementation of the Sponsorship child protection programme in line with the project log frame and implementation plan.
  • Work in collaboration with other child protection projects to ensure generation of evidence, learning and good practices.
  • Support partners implementing child protection activities under Sponsorship, KNB and COM projects.
  • Support the development of innovative interventions to strengthen child-led groups; radio drama and other platforms to deliver for children in the project areas
  • Documenting of project/partner experiences to capture the good and bad practices, the results and impacts achieved and any other experiences relevant for sharing with others.
  • Track partner implementation, budget spend and reporting of results
  • With support of the Programme Manager, develop work plan and budgets that contribute to achievement of overall project goal.
  • Analyze reports and funding requests from the partners and giving feed-back to ensure partner plans contribute to bigger project goal
  • Provide on-going support through regular field visits and capacity strengthening of partner organization in line with project goals.
  • Ensure on going partner and project risk assessment and develop risk mitigation measures in consultation with Awards Manager and Programme Managers
  • Ensure timely disbursement of funds to implementing partners including ensuring efficient utilization of funds.
  • Liaise with other practitioners in a similar field of work and with government on policy and practice issues and informing them of our interventions and work.
  • The post holder may be required to carry out additional duties within reasonableness of their level of skills and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • University degree/Diploma in Social Sciences or relevant area;
  • At least 5 years of relevant working experience with right-based issues; preferably children’s rights and protection within civil society sector;
  • Experience in training and capacity building
  • Strong knowledge of Children’s rights and governance, current protection issues and interventions.
  • Experience with participatory and community action and social & behavior change approaches desirable
  • Demonstrated skills in the design of human rights projects
  • Experience in proposal development, capacity analysis and development
  • Good analytical and report writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve objectives
  • English language proficiency a must, local languages an added advantage
  • Strong communication (verbal and writing skills), interpersonal and representational skills
  • Flexible and adaptable to dynamic changes and fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Knowledge of word, Microsoft excel and power point Child Safeguarding

Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people.
