Duties

The head mechanic will be responsible for the following duties:

Leading a team of mechanics in fault diagnosis and repair of vehicles and machinery.
Carrying out work orders and ensuring managements needs are met.
Reporting any faults or complaints from drivers to the line manager.
Adhering to safety and encouraging safety within the workshop among mechanics.
Ensuring that the day to day assigned tasks are accomplished.
Conduct vehicle assessments and report findings to the line manager.

Qualifications

Must have a Craft Certificate in Automotive Engineering. A diploma will be an added advantage.
Must have a driver’s license of class C1 or better. A PSV license will be an added advantage.

Experience

Must have at least 4 years of experience in a dynamic automotive repair environment with a focus on both diesel and petrol engines.
Previous experience in leading a group/team of fellow mechanics in completing intensive tasks.
Experience in the rebuilding of transfer cases, gearboxes, and engines is a must.
Experience with Ford diesel engines, MT82 gearboxes, and LT230 transfer cases will be an advantage.
Outstanding fault diagnosis skills especially in sensor-based vehicles are a necessity.

Other requirements

Able to plan or follow a planned maintenance schedule in the absence of the workshop manager.
Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Able to read and write as well as conduct research.
