Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

The Archives Digitising Assistant will be responsible for scanning and digitally preserving historical records in accordance with archival best practices. The role involves handling fragile and rare materials with care, creating high-quality digital images, and ensuring accurate meta data entry to facilitate long-term preservation and access.

KEY RESULT AREAS
Organising Records- Ensure records earmarked for scanning are clean, complete, and well labelled
Scanning of Records- Operate scanning equipment to create high-resolution digital copies of historical documents, photographs and other archival materials
Entry of Meta Data- Assign accurate file names and descriptive metadata for each scanned item for retrieval purposes.
Quality Control- Inspect scanned images for clarity, completeness, and colour accuracy. Rescan or adjust as needed to meet quality requirements if need be.
Maintain logbook- Enter into the logbook every file that has been scanned for purposes of reporting.

Job Requirements

1.     Professional Qualifications:    Grade 12 with bachelor’s in Records Management or Library and Information Science.
2. Minimum Relevant Pre-Job Experience:Must have worked in a busy archive at least for 1 year.
3. Skill Specifications:Good communication skills both written and spoken.

Excellent ICT skills and proficiency with scanning   equipment

Familiarity with metadata standards
