About the role
We are delighted to announce that we are looking for a Specialist – Import / Export (Africa South) to join our Supply Chain team.
As a Future Shaper, you will play a key role in ensuring customs compliance, trade governance, and operational excellence across our Africa South region. Reporting to the Manager – Supply Chain, this position is based in the Orica South Africa Office and supports operations across South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, and Tanzania.
As the regional subject matter expert for customs and trade compliance, you will play a critical role in ensuring all import and export activities are conducted in accordance with applicable customs regulations, trade requirements, and company governance standards. You will oversee customs compliance processes, support audit readiness, manage customs broker performance, and provide guidance on trade regulations, tariff classifications, permits, and customs documentation.
Working closely with Supply Chain, Tax, Finance, regulatory authorities, customs agencies, and third-party service providers, you will help minimise compliance risks, strengthen governance controls, and support the efficient movement of goods across multiple jurisdictions.
This role is well suited to a professional with strong customs compliance expertise and experience operating within multinational manufacturing, mining, chemicals, logistics, or other highly regulated environments.
What you will be doing
- Lead customs compliance monitoring, assurance, and audit readiness across all import and export activities in the Africa North region.
- Conduct post-clearance and pre-clearance reviews to ensure customs declaration accuracy, compliance, and documentation integrity.
- Manage customs broker performance, identify compliance gaps, and drive corrective and preventative actions.
- Develop and maintain customs compliance reporting, dashboards, and management insights to support decision-making.
- Partner with internal stakeholders, customs authorities, and regulatory bodies to ensure effective trade governance and permit compliance.
What you will bring
- A degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Trade, Commerce, Law, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in customs compliance, international trade, or import/export operations.
- Proven experience managing customs brokers, freight forwarders, or other third-party logistics providers.
- Demonstrated experience conducting customs audits, compliance reviews, and post-clearance assessments.
- Strong knowledge of customs valuation, tariff classification, rules of origin, customs documentation, and permit management.
