We are therefore inviting applications to fill the below vacant position for our Kalumbila Sentinel Site.
1. HEALTH SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT SUPERINTENDENT X 1
This position reports to the Project Manager. Successful candidate will be responsible for the below duties.
Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of the Mine Health and Safety Management System.
- Ensure compliance with the Mines and Minerals Development Act, Occupational Health and Safety legislation, and company HSE standards.
- Develop, implement, and monitor HSE policies, procedures, standards, and safe work practices.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections, audits, and compliance assessments.
- Facilitate hazard identification, risk assessments (HIRA), and implementation of appropriate control measures.
- Monitor Critical Risk Management (CRM) and Life Saving Rules compliance.
- Lead investigations into incidents, accidents, near misses, and dangerous occurrences.
- Ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and monitored.
- Monitor contractor HSE performance and ensure contractor compliance.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness and response plans, including emergency drills.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permit conditions.
- Monitor environmental performance, including waste management, air quality, water quality, noise, dust, and rehabilitation activities.
- Coordinate environmental monitoring programmes and reporting.
- Promote pollution prevention and environmental conservation initiatives.
- Ensure hazardous materials are stored, transported, and disposed of safely.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities on environmental compliance matters.
- Coordinate occupational health surveillance programmes.
- Promote employee wellness initiatives.
- Monitor workplace exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, vibration, and other occupational hazards.
- Coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring programmes.
- Supervise HSE Officers, Safety Inspectors, and Environmental Officers.
- Mentor and develop HSE personnel.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the mine.
- Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and annual HSE reports.
- Maintain statutory registers and records.
- Coordinate internal and external HSE audits.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
· Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety.
· Minimum of 8 years’ experience in Health, Safety and Environment within the mining industry.
· At least 3 years in a supervisory or superintendent-level position.
· Experience in open-pit mining operations.
· Proven experience implementing HSE Management Systems.
· Strong knowledge of incident investigation methodologies and risk management Knowledge of Zambia’s mining regulations and HSE standards is an advantage.
· Must have a valid driver’s license.
