Ashford Academy is the newest member of the Rhodes Park Schools Group, it is a co-educational non-denominational boarding school offering G8 – G12 Classes that follow local and international syllabi.

POSITION # 1:

TEACHER – ENGLISH AND LITERATURE

JOB PURPOSE

The job holder will be responsible for preparing and delivering structured and differentiated lessons to learners in the Secondary Section of the School. The position holder will be expected to develop learners’ communication, analytical and interpretive skills, and to stimulate high levels of literacy, critical thinking and creativity in line with both the Cambridge Assessment International  Education and Zambian Competence Based Curriculum

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, curriculum aligned lessons in English Language and Literature.

  • Use a range of active-learning strategies.

  • Assess, track and report on student progress, providing timely and targeted feedback

  • Develop/Improve learners’ reading, writing, speaking and comprehension skills.

  • Promote critical analysis of literary texts across genres (prose, poetry and drama)

  • Create a positive, inclusive and properly managed classroom environment

  • Contribute to curriculum implementation and the creation of high-quality instructional resources

  • Support extracurricular activities such as debate, public speaking, drama and literary clubs

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents and pastoral staff to support student achievement and wellbeing

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE

& PERSONAL COMPETENCIES:

Preferred Academic and Professional Qualifications for All Positions

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate with 5 Credits or better

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education with specialization in English and/or Literature

  • Ability to teach up to A-Level

  • Qualified teacher registered and licensed with the Teaching Council of Zambia

  • Qualifications verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority

  • Familiarity with Examinations Council of Zambia and Cambridge assessment pathways

Knowledge / Experience / Skills / Competencies

  • Minimum of three (3) years teaching experience at a reputable school

  • Demonstrated ability to improve student literacy outcomes

  • Strong command of written and spoken English

  • High level of creativity in lesson delivery

  • Strong classroom management and learner engagement skills

  • Ability to differentiate instruction for mixed-ability learners

  • Strong assessment and feedback practices

  • A growth mindset and commitment to continuous professional development

Must be computer literate

POSITION # 2:

TEACHER OF MATHEMATICS (MAJOR)

JOB PURPOSE

The job holder will be responsible for preparing and delivering structured and differentiated lessons in Mathematics. The position holder will be expected to develop learners’ numerical fluency, logical reasoning and problem-solving skills, and to promote confidence and competence in Mathematics in line with both Cambridge and Zambian curriculum requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned Mathematics lessons

  • Apply structured and step-by-step instructional approaches to complex concepts

  • Use a variety of teaching strategies to support conceptual understanding and problem-solving

  • Assess, track and report on student performance, providing timely interventions

  • Identify and address learning gaps effectively

  • Create a positive, inclusive and well-managed classroom environment

  • Contribute to curriculum development and resource design

  • Support enrichment programmes such as mathematics clubs or competitions

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents and pastoral staff

POSITION # 3:

TEACHER OF CHEMISTRY AND PHYSICS

JOB PURPOSE

The job holder will be responsible for preparing and delivering structured and differentiated lessons in Chemistry and Physics. The position holder will be expected to develop learners’ scientific knowledge, inquiry skills and practical competencies, and to stimulate interest in science aligned with real-world application.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and deliver engaging, curriculum aligned lessons in Chemistry and Physics

  • Use practical work, demonstrations and experiments to enhance learning

  • Ensure safe and effective use of laboratory equipment and procedures

  • Assess, track and report on student progress with timely feedback and intervention

  • Promote scientific inquiry, critical thinking and problem-solving

  • Create a positive, inclusive and well managed learning environment

  • Contribute to curriculum development and science resource planning

  • Support science clubs, STEM activities and enrichment programmes

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents and pastoral staff

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE

& PERSONAL COMPETENCIES

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • High levels of professionalism, integrity and accountability

  • Flexible and adaptable to institutional demands

POSITION # 4:

SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS & LEARNING SUPPORT TEACHER

JOB PURPOSE

Your primary responsibility will be to support the school’s commitment to inclusive and holistic education by providing specialized support to learners with special educational needs (SEN) and delivering high-quality Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education. You will ensure that learners are supported academically, socially, and emotionally to reach their full potential through assessment, individualized support, and structured PSHE learning. The SEN & PSHE Teacher will work collaboratively with staff, parents, and relevant stakeholders and is directly accountable to the Deputy Headteacher

RESPONSIBILITIES

 Conduct assessments for students suspected of having learning difficulties.

• Identify learners who require additional support or intervention.

• Collaborate with teachers and parents during the identification process.

• Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for qualifying students.

• Clearly explain IEP goals to mainstream teachers and parents.

• Ensure IEPs are practical, measurable, and tailored to each learner.

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of students on IEPs.

• Track learner progress against IEP goals.

• Ensure all SEN data is securely stored and treated as strictly confidential in line with school policy.

• Chair IEP meetings with teachers and relevant stakeholders.

• Ensure IEP goals are reviewed within agreed timeframes.

• Adjust plans based on learner progress and feedback.

• Work closely with teachers, parents, and school leadership.

• Facilitate collaboration with external professionals where necessary.

• Act as a liaison between the school and external support services.

• Provide training to mainstream teachers on how to implement IEPs.

• Support teachers with strategies for inclusive classroom practices.

• Develop, implement, and review the SEN policy.

• Champion inclusive education across the school.

  • Promote equal learning opportunities for all learners

PSHE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan and deliver engaging PSHE lessons across all grade levels.

• Teach health and hygiene, relationships and social skills, personal safety, and financial literacy.

• Use interactive, learner-centered, and real-life approaches.

• Support learners in building confidence, resilience, and self-awareness.

• Develop learners’ decision-making and problem-solving skills.

• Guide learners in setting personal and academic goals.

• Promote physical and mental health awareness.

• Educate learners on healthy lifestyle choices.

• Address issues such as substance abuse and emotional wellbeing.

• Teach respect, empathy, and positive relationships.

• Support learners in managing peer pressure and conflict.

• Address issues such as bullying and promote positive behaviour.

• Promote awareness of personal safety and wellbeing.

• Provide a safe and supportive environment for learners.

• Refer learners to appropriate support services when necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE

& PERSONAL COMPETENCIES

Preferred Academic and Professional Qualifications for the position

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or a related field.

  • Background in Guidance & Counselling or PSHE is an added advantage.

  • Strong understanding of inclusive education practices.

  • TCZ licensed Special Education Teacher.

Knowledge / Experience/Skills/Competencies

  • Strong assessment and analytical skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with strict confidentiality.

  • Empathy, patience, and adaptability.

  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.

  • Ability to train and support other teachers.
