Job Description
SAFETY COORDINATOR X 1
Reports to: Head of Sustainability
Job Overview:
- To ensure all installations and operations conform to domestic, mining, environmental, explosives and other related safety regulations and provide advisory service on matters of accident prevention (occupational Safety and health) and promote safety awareness.
Accountabilities/Tasks
- Carries out regular plant and quarry inspections in accordance with the domestic, mining, explosives and environmental regulations to ensur3e the safety of all workers and machinery.
- Conducts various safety training and awareness programs and ensures enough fire marshals, first aiders and assist in times of fire, injury to persons and promote safety among themselves.
- Investigates all accidents, dangerous occurrences, record statements prepare and maintain accident statistics and provide reports for the benefit of management, Mines Safety Department and Workers Compensation Fund Control Board.
- Conduct Safety induction of new Employees and contractors aimed at sustaining Safety Culture and promote risk assessment to employees.
- Ensure periodic serving of firefighting equipment by service provider is done and liaise with other fire organization on new technology.
- Organize and conduct regular safety meetings to review safety performance including weekly review of near-misses and safety incidents and communicate corrective/improvement actions to Employees.
- Prepare and maintain plant safety management systems, procedures and instructions.
- Plan and implement Safety promotion campaigns, maintaining readable and clear plant safety signage, organization of emergence drills and administration of safety recognition awards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade twelve (12) certificates
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and safety or Equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience
