Job Description
Breath of Heaven Children’s Ministries (BOHCM) is a registered NGO dedicated to helping meet the needs of orphans in Zambia. Located in Barlastone Park, Lusaka, the Ministry currently incorporates a Children’s Village, which provides residential care for 100 orphans and vulnerable children, a Primary & Technical Secondary School, a Vocational Training College, a Medical Clinic, and a Community Church.
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Senior Accountant to join our team. The ideal
candidate will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring compliance with
financial regulations, and providing strategic financial guidance to support the organization’s
mission. This role requires a deep understanding of non-profit financial management, including
budgeting, forecasting, grant management, and financial reporting. The Senior Accountant will
work closely with the executive team, program managers, and external stakeholders to ensure the financial health and sustainability of the organization. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing financial policies, managing donor funds, preparing financial statements, and conducting financial analysis. The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders. This is a critical role that requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a
commitment to the values and goals of the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the operations and development of the company’s finance departments including creating and reviewing policies, budgeting, recruiting, training and conducting regular assessments of financial procedures.
- Manage donor funds and ensure compliance with grant requirements.
- Prepare and present financial statements and reports.
- Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.
- Coordinate audits and manage relationships with external auditors.
- Monitor cash flow and manage financial risks.
- Supervise, mentor and provide financial training to finance staff.
- Collaborate with the executive team to develop financial strategies.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes.
- Oversee payroll and benefits administration.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
- Develop and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets.
- Support fundraising efforts with financial data and analysis.
- Stay updated on financial trends and best practices in the non-profit sector.
- Assist in the development of organizational budgets and financial plans.
Candidate Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- Must be a fully paid-up member of ZICA.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management, preferably in the non-profit sector.
- Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting principles and practices.
- Experience with grant management and donor reporting.
- Proficiency in Quickbooks software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Exemplary Christian character and active in a local Christian church.
- Effective communicator, creative problem-solver, collaborative decision-make.
