Job description
The Construction Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of school construction projects to ensure they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop a construction work plan for selected schools
- Review building drawings for conformance with project specifications, leveraging the knowledge and experience of others in the project team
- Prepare construction budgets based on contractor and BOQ costs and assist with comparative bid preparation
- Contribute to contractor selection
- Ensure all contracts and any other necessary paperwork are in place, signed and filed in accordance with standard procedures and that contractor/s adhere to the contract terms and conditions
- Coordinate construction works and supervise the contractor/s across multiple sites
- Complete risk assessments and prepare contingency plans to prevent foreseeable problems and resolve and mitigate risks for all construction sites
- Ensure that all functions under supervision operate following standard practices, laws, and construction policies and procedures
- Implement quality control testing and inspection during construction to ensure adherence with best practices and established quality and safety standards
- Ensure exceptional stewardship of organizational resources, review material requisitions for all construction, monitor and record material deliveries and usage at each construction sites
- Keep all construction monitoring tools up-to-date and submit regular data and progress reports to the Head of Operations
- Sign off completion of works at each phase
- Lead community engagement and organize community materials for construction projects where possible
- Lead on school furniture procurement and distribution, ensuring quality and tagging of all pieces
Qualifications, Skills and Competences
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant on hand experience in general building construction with increasing levels of responsibility
- Advanced certificate or diploma in construction management, architecture, engineering, or related field is an advantage
- Membership of a Construction Engineering accreditation body in Zambia –i.e. ZIA, EIZ
- Proven working experience in construction coordination and site labour supervision
- Advanced knowledge of construction management processes, means, and methods
- Strong project management skills
- Excellent planning, coordination, and ability to see the “big picture”
- Exceptional attention to detail and time management
- Competent in conflict and crisis management
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with technical and non-technical personnel
- Excellent communicator, both written and verbal in English and Chinyanja
- Integrity, ingenuity, and reliability are a must
- The ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines
- The ability to troubleshoot and provide reasonable solutions as problems arise
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to make independent judgments and decisions
This position is based in Katete, Eastern Province.
