Job Description


REPORTING TO:  Farm Manager

JOB PURPOSE: To Oversee cropping operations, including all crop production, harvesting and storage.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

1.     Oversea the cultivation, production and harvesting of crops such as (wheat , soya and maize crops)

2.     Manage and maintain pivot irrigation systems for optional crop growth

3.     Inspect fields to  ensure that plants are growing in accordance with approved plans.

4.     Working with the manager to evaluate soil and weather conditions and develop plans procedures.

5.     Inspect fields to assess crop maturity, condition, and detect disease or insect issues.

6.     Implement effective crop rotation and soil management strategies to ensure sustainable farming practices.

7.     Coordinate with the senior management team to plan and execute planting, fertilization, pest control, and harvesting operations.

8.    Monitor crop health and growth and apply appropriate agricultural techniques to address issues.

9.    Maintain and repair farming equipment and machinery as needed.

10.  Train and supervise farm staff in crop management techniques and equipment use

11.   Monitor and lead the field team.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven experience in managing crops under Centre pivot irrigation systems.
  • Strong mechanical skills related to farming equipment and irrigation systems.
  • Familiarity with the agricultural environment and practices in Zambia.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team effectively.

Education and Work Experience

  • Diploma/Degree in Agriculture
  • 8 years Post qualification and 3 years in a Supervisory Role at a large commercial cropping farm.
