Location: Lusaka but priority operational area is Kafue Flats including the two National Parks (Lochinvar and Blue Lagoon) and the Kafue Flats Game Management Area

Summary:
The International Crane Foundation (ICF) is registered in Zambia as a not-for-profit organisation since 2019. As part of a partnership with the Endangered Wildlife Trust on the African Crane Conservation Programme (ACCP), we aim to have stable wild populations of the four threatened crane species, resident to sub-Saharan African (Wattled, Blue, Grey Crowned and Black Crowned Cranes). In Zambia, the ICF/EWT Partnership is part of the Kafue Flats Restoration Partnership (KFRP) which has signed a 20 year collaborative management partnership (CMP) agreement with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife and WWF Zambia. The objective of the agreement is to manage and restore the protected areas of the Kafue Flats under an integrated model that works with communities and other stakeholders to create a model for balancing ecological conservation with human needs in a protected area floodplain system that is probably the most important for the Wattled Crane.
We are looking for an experienced dynamic, committed and detail-orientated person to fill the role of Manager of the Kafue Flats Restoration Partnership. The position will assist the Southern African Regional Floodplains Manager in achieving the objectives of the Southern African Floodplains Regional Programme through effective and efficient implementation of agreed activities. The Kafue Flats Restoration Partnership with the vision of a Thriving Wetland for All is one of the ten global model projects of the International Crane Foundation.
Purpose of the position
The purpose of the position is to facilitate and support the implementation of the four pillars of the Kafue Flats Restoration Partnership (KFRP), specifically ensuring effective project management and that business processes are streamlined and efficient and compliance with internal polices is ensured. This position is office-based and involves some travel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide strategic guidance, supportive leadership, and ensure compliance with the policies of the ICF/EWT Partnership in project implementation.
Ensure that the provisions of the long-term collaborative management partnership (CMP) agreement for the restoration of the Kafue Flats are implemented as guided by the Steering Committee.
Coordinate the day-to-day implementation of the agreed priorities under the different pillars of the KFRP in accordance with ICF/EWT Partnership and donor policies and priorities, including business processes and procurement.
Ensure timely delivery and compilation of annual work plans and budgets, monthly progress reports, annual progress reports, and other plans by the programme leads as required, and ensure timely submission in conjunction with the team and for approval by the Regional Manager.
OTHER DUTIES
Review applications for funds, retirements and trip reports to ensure effectiveness and efficiency in undertaking approved activities.
Coordinate and support the Zambia office’s contributions to national and organisational processes, participation in internal and external meetings, and drafting of proposals.
Ensure that the strategy is updated with activities and indicators and all reporting takes place in the Miradi software supporting the Conservation Standards.
Collaborate closely with the Finance and Administration Officer and the entire KFRP Team in ensuring adequate communication and facilitation of activities.
Support the Southern African Floodplains Reginal Manager in his functions.
Perform any duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
A Master’s Degree in a relevant conservation field. Qualifications in project management, business development and programme development are an added advantage.
10 years or more practical experience managing donor-funded projects including direct experience in long-term programme coordination with multiple donors and streamlining of business processes.
In-depth understanding of integrated conservation programmes.
Good understanding of institutional change management, growth and team building.
Experience working with multiple stakeholders in Government, private sector and communities.
Demonstrated experience in supporting project teams.
Good skills and ability in data management and data analysis.
Technical skills in project planning, implementation, and monitoring
Demonstrated success in resource mobilization and fundraising through project development and proposal writing.
Good verbal/oral communication skills and fluent in English language and competency in communication skills using a variety of media.
Demonstrated capacity to write project reports and correspondences in clear, concise, logical, and grammatically correct manner, and competency to use word processing and spreadsheet software.
Experience in effective community and stakeholder engagement, networking, and alliance building.
Attention to detail and thoroughness in terms of timeliness and quality of work.
Possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving records.
Flexibility to work the number and schedule of hours needed to accomplish regular and ad hoc job responsibilities.
