TECHNICAL ADVISOR, – DRILLS

Job Purpose

Carry out predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance activities on Diesel Drills HVAC & Auto

Electrical Systems to meet targeted Mechanical, Physical & Cost KPIs in order to achieve set Production Targets implementing laid down Safety & Environmental policies.

Specific Job Responsibility

  • Condition Monitoring: Ability to timeously and accurately detect changes in equipment health, operation and application severity in support of a repair before failure maintenance strategy.
  • Human Resources Training, Coaching & Mentoring: The ability to train, coach & mentor technicians to conduct maintenance activities safely, competently & timeously in order to meet business needs & requirements.
  • Parts Management: Timeously audit parts availability; parts upgrades & alternative parts replacement requirements across the drills fleet.
  • Repair Management: The ability to assist Technicians to carry out planned and unplanned maintenance activities.
  • Backlog management: Ability to generate or identify tasks that cannot be completed on the required by date & advise execution times and priorities of the pending workload/ backlogs.
  • Component Management: Ability to determine the expected life cycle of a component & advise planners to design a major change out or repair strategy before a failure.
  • Performance Evaluation: Ability to measure, evaluate & manage performance against set Drills KPIs.
  • Continuous Improvement: Ability to formulate an organised approach in search of solutions after machine performance evaluations.
  • Preventative and Routine Maintenance – Ability to conduct QAs/QCs & provide technical advice on tasks performed by technicians during high frequency, fixed interval planned activities including well defined service routines, proactive defect detection & repair execution that support the goals of equipment reliability & availability.
  • Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Management: Ensure Safety Health & Environmental policies & procedures are adhered to in accordance with FQML OH & S requirements. Ensure high levels of housekeeping practises are maintained for a clean & safe environment with proper general & electrical waste disposal.

Job Specific Competencies

  • An Expert level understanding of Auto Electrical & Electronic Systems.
  • An Expert Level understanding of Industrial HVAC systems.
  • Assist in identifying & repair of faults on diesel engine powered drills on a daily basis.
  • Perform routine inspections & over inspections on HVAC & auto electrical systems.
  • Manage installations & replacement of Starter motors; alternators; HVAC compressor, evaporator, condenser & any other associated components.
  • Ability to use Electrical Schematics & OEM manuals to conduct Root Cause Analysis.
  • Train staff to expertly perform the following maintenance activities: Planned & Predictive Maintenance, Condition Monitoring, Backlog Management, Repair & Component replacements.
  • Train staff in applicable on the job SHE procedures.
  • Ability to share Technical Knowledge to Auto Electricians and HVAC Technicians to ensure tasks are executed in a safe & timely manner.
  • Knowledge transfer by training, coaching and mentoring while being hands on.
  • Assist in developing Safe Work Procedures or Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ability to detect faults before failure, plan the needed repairs, assist technicians to execute repairs efficiently & effectively, evaluate results and correct any deficiencies in the process.
  • Ability to expertly braze HVAC copper tubing of different sizes.
  • Ability to expertly solder auto gauge wires.
  • Ability to expertly repair damaged auto harnesses.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI (Added advantage), Outlook etc.

Experience required to perform in this job.

  • At least 5 years’ hands on experience working on HVAC & Auto Electrical Systems.
  • Experience working on FlexiROC D65, DML & DM30 Epiroc diesel drills.
  • Work experience in a Heavy Mine Industry.

Qualifications

  • Full Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate
  • Diploma, Advanced certificate or craft certificate or better in Auto Electrical Engineering coupled with experience working on HVAC systems.
  • Valid driver’s License a must.
