Job Description
Zambia Sugar Plc. is a subsidiary of Illovo Sugar Africa (Pty) Ltd Group and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products. The Company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the position of Maintenance Foreman – Boilers & Steam Generation in the Manufacturing Department.
The position reports to the Steam and Power Generation Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for Supervising Maintenance employees in the Steam and Power Generation maintenance team to achieve maximum plant availability and equipment capacity (Maintenance Excellence).
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Plan and supervise the daily work and performance of each maintenance employee on assigned shift, organize schedules, and assign work activity to achieve team and company objectives safely.
- Together with the maintenance team, achieve shift, daily, weekly, monthly and off-crop shutdown targets ensuring that tasks are prioritised and planned in a logical, systematic and cost-effective way to optimise profitability.
- Develop budget for discipline with Engineering Head, finance business partner, optimization/ CoE and manage costs effectively.
- Monitor performance of Boilers and Turbines & supporting equipment advising teams in solving problems and/or taking corrective action.
- Monitor standards for setting, operating and maintaining Boilers & Turbines to OEM specifiations and ensure instructions are adhered to.
- Manage iAMP policy adherence to practices amongst maintenance teams.
- Manage maintenance work quality to reduce rework and increase plant reliability.
- Ensure Boilers& Turbines maintenance and reliability plans are aligned to achieve Factory Business Objectives.
- Identify areas where equipment performance and quality management can be improved and manage the implementation of systems and processes to make improvements.
- Leverage available support from Factory Optimization, the Illovo group (HO and other countries)
- Ensure continuous improvement by implementing Boilers & Turbines functional best practices and conducting physical inspections.
- Identify L&D needs within the team and manage training through business partnership.
- Work with Optimization and Production team to solve problems and promote cross functional engagement & teamwork.
- Ensure Boilers & Turbines Equipment and BOM information and WO’s are captured accurately within Maximo
- Provide Boilers & Turbines team with necessary tools and equipment to perform work effectively.X
- Ensure technical and maintenance reporting (From Maximo) is compliant with company policy and procedures.
- Manage and maintain key engineering activities for Boilers, turbines and bagasse handling equipment guided by the Group technical risk guidelines.
- Monitor Boilers & turbines performance and take corrective action where required.
- Provide input into best practices, frameworks and minimum standards within function through Head Office platform, and provide additional opportunities for problem identification and knowledge sharing.
- Identify and monitor KPIs to track performance and flag any issues.
- Promote and adhere to Illovo’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering OR Craft Certificate WITH 7 Years experience in Sugar Manufacturing Maintenance work.
- 7 years’ experience in planned maintenance systems
- Extensive experience using planned maintenance systems, especially Maximo
- Able to work methodically and systematically in a Sugar Mill environment.
