Job Description
Organization Summary:
Ciheb-Zambia is a non-profit local Zambian organisation supporting Ministry of Health to scale up comprehensive HIV prevention and testing services and find the best solutions to life threatening situations among communities in Zambia.
Position Summary
The Head driver will report to the HR and Administration Officer. S/he is responsible for providing driving and coordinating other drivers in the movement of personnel and in the use and maintenance of the Ciheb office vehicles.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive the vehicle assigned by Ciheb Zambia for the transportation of Members Staff
- Ensures vehicle is kept in good running condition at all times through addressing minor repairs, making arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, water levels and car washing.
- Logs official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.
- Meets official and high ranking personnel at the airport.
- Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc., performs minor repairs and arranges for other repairs.
- Ensures that the vehicle is kept clean.
- Deliver and collect mails, documents, supplies and other items as required.
- Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken, in case of involvement in an accident
- Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle; keeps track of insurance and other tax formalities
- Coordination of other drivers in the in-country movement of personnel
- Co-ordinate transport-related matters for an effective and smooth functioning of the country office.
- Responsible for the daily transportation plan making necessary adjustments as per last minute changes/requirements.
- Coordinate drivers by assigning them appropriate daily routines.
- Inform the Admin Assistant of any major repairs required and ensure that the vehicles are kept clean and in good working order at all times.
- Support other drivers with the preparation of job cards, inspecting of vehicles and ensuring all vehicles are fully equipped with tools, first aid kits and MOSS compliant.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Diploma in Logistics and Transport – CILT
- Certificate or Diploma in auto mechanics from a reputable institution
- A valid class C driver’s license
- A defensive driving certificate is a must
Experience:
- A clean driving record.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a professional driver and auto mechanic
- Prior NGO experience is an added advantage
Others:
- Sober and mature character
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to self-motivate and motivate a team.
Language:
- Fluency in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
