Innovate General Insurance Limited, a general insurance company operating in Zambia since and has offices in Lusaka, Kitwe and Ndola. The Company is now seeking to identify a qualified individual to be engaged as Legal Officer. The Legal Officer will be reporting to the Chief Operating Officer

Main duties will include the following;

• Initiates and attend to legal proceedings or actions as approved for debt collection
• Refer matters received for debt collection to legal counsel engagements
• Liaises with the relevant departments on customers monthly suspension list and authorize for suspension.
• Review and sign suspension letter before dispatch by finance team to customers
• Attend to Litigation proceedings before all courts of competent jurisdiction
• Prepare instructions letters to external counsel
• Initiate legal proceedings or actions as approved and agreed
• Prepare a draft opinion or report on Innovate Insurance prospects of success in the claim or defense for consideration by the external legal counsel
• Liaises with the relevant departments to gain further understandings of the clai
• Researches on applicable laws arising from reports on potential litigation cases
• Engages external counsel on a monthly basis to get progress reports on cases handed over.
• Develops strategy with outside counsel in response to civil litigation, including negotiating settlement agreements where appropriate
• Identifies Legislation that affects Innovate Insurance in compliance with Zambian Laws and international standards
• Prepares a litigation section report quarterly for consideration and action by the external legal counsel
• Prepares a Legal Risk Register monthly for external legal counsel

Requirements:

• Full Grade twelve certificate
• Degree in law from any reputable institution
• Experience with criminal law is preferred
• Excellent communication skills
• Analytical ability
• Good interpersonal skills and team player
